Environmental

Temperature, humidity, CO2 and water-leak sensing with plug-in probes and leak cables — server rooms, cold stores, pharmacies, warehouses. The classic HW Group territory. See the Environmental Monitoring range.

System

The infrastructure itself — power presence, UPS status over SNMP, door contacts, smoke and fan-failure detectors, rack conditions. Alerts by email, SMS and voice call, with relay outputs to act locally when something trips.

Process

Machines, meters and instruments — Modbus RTU devices, 4-20mA and 0-30A signals, pulse counting and electricity meters read directly, with Lua logic and schedulers analysing on the device. Monitoring where production happens.

The Difference

It Connects the Sensors You Already Have

Most monitoring systems only speak to their own sensors. HW Group units read third-party equipment directly — 4-20mA transmitters such as Druck pressure sensors, Modbus RTU instruments, detectors with relay outputs onto digital inputs, and LAN devices over the Open API (SNMP, Modbus/TCP, MQTT). The Meters API even reads values from other devices on the network and folds them into one alerting policy.

The result: existing instruments come online without being replaced, new probes plug in beside them, and the whole site reports to one dashboard. Nothing gets ripped out.

The Portal

SensDesk — Every Device, Every Site, One Portal

SensDesk is where the whole HW Group estate comes together: live dashboards and graphs for every sensor, thresholds with escalating alerts — app, email, SMS and voice call — and scheduled PDF and CSV reports that write the compliance record automatically. Virtual sensors combine readings into calculated values, and the Device Invalid alert catches the failure most systems miss: a unit that has silently stopped reporting.

Teams share one account with per-user roles, the HWg Monitor mobile app puts every reading in a pocket, and devices can be reconfigured remotely from the portal — no site visit. Run it as a cloud service, or fully on-premise where the data must stay in-house. TITAN sets up the portal, thresholds and escalation before the hardware ships.

For integrators: the portal itself has an open API — the whole team’s sensor data over SNMP v1/v3 or XML, readable every minute, team-wide or scoped by user permissions — so the estate flows into an NMS, SCADA or your own software as easily as it flows into SensDesk.

A university or laboratory estate runs dozens of fridges and freezers spread across buildings — research samples, reagents, vaccines — each one a quiet risk.

The HW Group pattern: a probe in every unit, monitoring units per room or per building, all reporting into one SensDesk view. Excursions escalate from app alert to SMS to a voice call until someone acknowledges; scheduled PDF reports give each department its compliance record without anyone exporting anything; and if a fridge’s monitor ever goes silent, Device Invalid raises it.

Reports can be digitally signed and Gamp5-compliant — the audit file writes itself.

HW Group Questions, Answered

Can HW Group units read sensors I already have?

Yes — it’s a core strength. Third-party 4-20mA transmitters (pressure sensors such as Druck, flow, level) connect to the analog inputs, Modbus RTU instruments to the RS-485 port, detectors with relay outputs to the digital inputs, and LAN devices over SNMP, Modbus/TCP or MQTT. Existing equipment comes onto one dashboard without being replaced.

Do HW Group devices need a cloud service?

No — every unit alerts standalone: email, SMS and voice calls sent from the device itself, with relay outputs to act locally. SensDesk adds graphs, reports and fleet-wide dashboards when you want them — as a cloud service or installed on-premise — and the Open API feeds your own system instead if you prefer.

HW Group or wireless battery sensors — which do I need?

HW Group is the wired architecture: where power and networking exist — server rooms, plant rooms, panels — it’s the simplest option and never needs a battery. Where they don’t, battery LoRaWAN sensors take over. Most sites mix both; the Environmental Monitoring page walks through the choice.

How long do the devices last?

HW Group engineers its devices for 5 to 15 year lifespans — and because the units and probes are mains, PoE or -48V powered, there are no batteries to replace, ever. Monitoring hardware installed once and forgotten about is the design goal, backed by Irish support from TITAN in Galway.
